To be India’s premier multidisciplinary professional body dedicated to creating safer healthcare environments — where healthcare-associated infections are minimized, antimicrobial resistance is curtailed, and every patient and healthcare worker is protected across all tiers of care.

To empower healthcare professionals, institutions, and policymakers across India with evidence-based knowledge, practical tools, clinical guidelines, and technical resources to develop and sustain robust infection prevention and control programs — spanning primary care clinics to quaternary care hospitals — while fostering a culture of diagnostic and antimicrobial stewardship.
OUR OBJECTIVES
What We Stand For
Reduce HAIs
Reduce the burden of preventable healthcare-associated infections to the lowest achievable levels across all healthcare settings in India.
Combat AMR

National Guidelines
Develop and disseminate national guidelines, protocols, and best practices in infection prevention, diagnostic stewardship, and antimicrobial stewardship.
CPD & Education
Provide continuous professional development through CMEs, symposia, hands-on training workshops, and the annual national conference HISICON.
Govt & WHO Partner
Serve as a national resource partner for government bodies, WHO, and regulatory authorities in IPC and AMR policy formulation.
Advance Science
Advance scientific knowledge through the Society’s peer-reviewed publication, the Journal of Patient Safety and Infection Control (JPSIC).
Three Decades of Safer Healthcare
Hospital Infection Society – India (HISI) is a national multidisciplinary association of healthcare professionals committed to the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in India. Founded in 1992 by distinguished clinicians and scientists — including Dr. Brahm Prakash, Dr. Bhale Rao, Dr. Acharya, Dr. F.D. Dastur, Dr. Ajita Mehta, Prof. Geeta Mehta, and Dr. T.S. Jain — the Society has served the nation and the broader healthcare community for over three decades. HISI is a registered academic society incorporated under the Registrar of Societies, Delhi, and complies with Section 12A of the Income Tax Act. Over the years, HISI has been recognised as a trusted resource partner by the Government of India, various State Governments, and international bodies including the World Health Organization (WHO), actively contributing to policy formulation and implementation of evidence-based protocols for infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance.

Taking IPC Beyond the Hospital
HISI is committed to extending infection prevention awareness beyond tertiary care centres — reaching rural healthcare facilities, standalone clinics, and ambulatory care settings across India. Through its network of city chapters, collaborative training programmes, and community outreach initiatives, HISI works to ensure that evidence-based infection control practices are accessible across all tiers of care, urban and rural alike. The Society also actively fosters national and international collaboration to address emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in the context of rapid globalisation.
