Profile

Dr. (Mrs.) Deepthi Nair is Head of Department (since 14th August 2023) and Professor & HAG (NFU, since 2023), Department of Microbiology, VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. She is currently Laboratory In-charge for Mycobacteriology and Related Molecular Biology, having previously been in charge of the CSF and Sterile Fluids Laboratory, Blood Culture Laboratory, Pus Culture Laboratory, and Antibiotics Susceptibility Laboratory.

She has been with VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital since 2005, progressing through Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor designations under GGSIPU. Prior to this, she served as Specialist in the Department of Microbiology at ESI Hospital Basaidarapur, Delhi (2000 onwards), and at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi (1998–2000). She completed her MD Microbiology from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi (1990–1993) and MBBS from the University of Delhi (1984–1989).

Her research credentials include a Google Scholar h-index of 26 and i-10 index of 48, and a ResearchGate score of 1474.2. She has 136 publications, 8 book chapters, and 2 monographs, with over 15 international and 100 national presentations including invited talks, oral and poster presentations. She has been involved in 50 projects and protocols, the most recent being the prestigious CAR ICMR National Award project — selected from several hundred applications as one of only 5 institutions, with funding of ₹15 crore. She is a peer reviewer for over 10 international and national journals and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Patient Safety & Infection Control of the Hospital Infection Society of India. She has received over 30 awards for oral and poster papers at international and national conferences.
