Dr. Namita Jaggi is a leading microbiologist with over 33 years of experience in clinical microbiology, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), device-associated infections, patient safety, and environmental surveillance of multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms. An alumnus of the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, she currently serves as Chairperson of Labs & Infection Control and Chief of Education & Research at Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon, a 750+ bed tertiary care facility in Gurugram. She has to her credit a certificate course in Improving Global Health, focussing on Quality and Safety from Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.

Since the hospital’s inception in 2007, Under her leadership, the laboratory has achieved multiple accreditations and is recognized for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and strict quality standards.

As Chief of Education and Research at Artemis Hospital, Dr. Namita Jaggi is deeply involved in translational research and has guided numerous DNB and PhD theses. Her research primarily focuses on the molecular mechanisms and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the gut microbiome’s role in resistance, rapid diagnostics, host–microbe interactions, and digital health innovations. Among the extramural projects, she has received funding from DBT for immunophenotyping of Dengue. There are 2 ongoing projects funded from ICMR on understanding the molecular mechanisms predisposing colistin heteroresistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae and evaluating the role of polyhydroxy alkanoates as adjuvants in increasing the effectiveness of colistin. Her recent deliverables included the development of an indigenous, cost-effective multiplex PCR assay for carbapenem resistance gene screening, which earned her the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA)Alumni Award in 2022. She also collaborated with MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. to develop the DigitalAMS mobile app.

Dr. Namita Jaggi has been a driving force behind Infection Prevention and Control at Artemis Hospital, under whose leadership the institution received the WHO Asia Pacific Hand Hygiene Excellence Award (2010–2011). Her outstanding contributions have also been recognized with several honors, including the APIC Hero of Infection Prevention (2012), SHEA International Ambassador (2015), 10th Aadhi-Aabadi Women Achievers Award (2018), and the SHEA IAP Alumni Research Grant (2022).

A strong advocate for evidence-based infection control and antimicrobial stewardship, Dr. Jaggi has collaborated on numerous national and international public health initiatives with organizations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), Centre for Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy (CDDEP), Hospital Infection Society- India (HISI), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and others.

She is an invited speaker at leading scientific conferences, and her research is widely cited in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. She is an author of medical books, contributed chapters to Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO). and has also represented India in drafting the APSIC CLABSI and CAUTI guidelines.

Dr. Jaggi holds executive positions with several professional bodies, including the Asia Pacific Society for Infection Control (APSIC) and Hospital Infection Society–India (HISI). She also serves as Country Secretary for INICC (International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium) and is a reviewer for the Journal of Patient Safety and Infection Control and Journal of Antimicrobial resistance and Infection control.
